Seoul isn't just the home of K-pop. It's practically an open-air museum of it. Whether you're chasing photo ops outside your favorite entertainment company, hunting for merch in Myeongdong, or soaking in the youthful energy of Hongdae, this list of K-pop places in Seoul covers the ten spots every fan should add to their itinerary.

1. Myeongdong

Known primarily as a bustling shopping hub, Myeongdong is an absolute essential stop for K-pop fans’ pilgrimage. It’s divided into two areas. First is the underground shopping center connected from Myeongdong Station to Seoul City Hall. It is packed with dedicated merchandise shops selling everything, especially unreleased photocards, goods with K-pop members’ faces, and customized posters at an affordable price.

After you stocked up on merch, the second place you can explore is the ground area where it’s heaven for the shopaholic. Brands from small to big, local to international, whether in stand-alone shops or big department stores, can be spotted here. You’ll never feel dull experiencing the ground level of Myeongdong since it is such an interesting place to explore.

There’s a never-ending array of goods to buy, such as official merchandise, collaborations, skincare, makeup, and many more. If you're hungry, there are good restaurants or cash-only street food along the street. There’s many exhilarating experiences to try as you walk through the street. Myeongdong also becomes a strategic place to stay since you can spot a lot of accommodation places there, such as Travelodge Myeongdong Euljiro and Travelodge Myeongdong Namsan.

2. Hongdae

hongdae

If you want to experience where the next generation of K-pop stars sharpens their skills, head straight to Hongdae. Hongdae, which abbreviates from Hongik Daehakyo, is famous as an art college. This made Hongdae known as a street that is famous for its art and lively busking culture along its pedestrian streets. Aside from the lively ground that is painted in colourful colours, especially red.

On any given evening, talented dance crews and indie musicians cover the latest K-pop hits with their singing, dancing, or even both for enthusiastic crowds. Beyond busking, Hongdae offers an energetic youth nightlife, indie music venues, an endless photo-concept cafes organized by fans, and tasty dining to fill your stomach. You can never catch this tourist zone deserted, because everyone keeps coming or staying in Hongdae even at the depths of night.

3. Gangnam

Immortalized globally by PSY's hit single "Gangnam Style," you’ll catch yourself remembering this district first and foremost when you think about Seoul, Korea.  This affluent district represents the sleek, polished side of South Korea, which could be said to be different from any other area even in Seoul.

Gangnam is packed with several entertainment agencies, high-end apartments, big corporations, luxury shopping streets, exclusive beauty salons where idols get their preparation done before their performance or event, and upscale dining establishments.

Walking through Gangnam gives you a taste of the exclusive and glamorous lifestyle, along with a genuine chance for celeb-spotting near apartment complexes, major agency offices, and trendy venues.

Situated in Gangnam-gu, the sleek JYP Entertainment headquarters is a popular photo-op destination for fans of TWICE, Stray Kids, ITZY, and NMIXX. While entry into the main training and office facilities is restricted, fans regularly gather near the building and the nearby JYP Nori Park either in the street or in a cafe.

After days filled with high-energy shopping and sightseeing, Han River Park (particularly the Yeouido or Banpo sections) offers the ultimate Korean relaxation experience. You can just sit and chill on the side of the river, buy food directly from the iconic convenience store that sometimes appears in dramas or variety shows, or order delivery food that will be sent to you right away.

You can also do some exercise that some idols in Han River Park do, such as running or cycling on a bicycle you can rent around the Han River. The park is a staple filming location for countless K-drama scenes, K-pop reality shows, and live streaming.

Since it covers a large part of Seoul and is a place for residents to gather after their busy schedule, sometimes you can find a performance in the Han River Park, whether as busking or even a small concert from idols dedicated to fans. It is also a spot for Kpop idols to enjoy their rest or leisure time, especially at midnight, but if you spot them here, don’t forget to respect their boundaries so they can enjoy their rare rest time in peace.

From high-energy shopping streets, quiet cafés loved by idols, and a leisure spot for rest and chill, Seoul offers everything for every kind of K-pop fan to experience during their stay after a concert, fan meeting, or simply traveling.

Use this list as a starting point, book your accommodation near a tourist attraction or public transportation such as one owned by Travelodge in Dongdaemun, Myeongdong Euljiro, and Myeongdong Namsan, then build your own route around whichever entertainment company or group means the most to you, since in Seoul, you're never far from the world of K-pop.
